AN ENCHANTING AND COLOURFUL FEW DAYS WITH FRIENDS IN TANGIER

April 11, 2019

Tangier has been a true feast for the eye. I travelled there for the first week of April with five artist friends. We have been overjoyed and overwhelmed with the wonderful colours and the vibrant life and atmosphere of the city. Around every corner was another treasure, another sound, perfume, and simple pleasure.

We feasted on the most delicious food and drinks, lovingly prepared with simple fresh ingredients, and bursting with more colour.

We discovered produce markets where the fresh ingredients were so artfully displayed, they were paintings in themselves.

There were areas of Tangier where artisans were proudly creating works by hand: embroidery, metalwork, weaving, tile making and wood sculpting. We were granted permission to take photographs because the pride in their beautiful work was tangible.

The bazaars were a particular joy. Aladdin's caves full of mystery and piled high with both tat and with

rich discoveries, treasures to be bartered for (one is expected to "play the game").
