My first visit to Mexico was in 2019 when I travelled there twice for workshops. I was immediately enchanted by the weather, the colours, the energy, and the feeling of magic. I am also fascinated by the fact that in the 1930's as World War 2, gathered pace in Western Europe; many of the group of young European artists who were the forerunners of the Surrealist movement decided to leave Paris where they had gathered, and flee, first to New York, then on to Mexico City, were many stayed until their death. I think the last of these was the British painter Leonora Carrington. Last year I travelled to Chapala for my first Artist Residency. I hope many more will follow. A have a portfolio full of sketches and ideas from the month I worked there.
